Abnormal liver function tests (LFTs) on blood tests are fairly common. Lots of things can cause abnormal LFTs including medication, alcohol, and other conditions such as fatty deposition in the liver, viral infections, and autoimmune conditions where the body’s immune system can cause damage to the liver. Many of these conditions do not cause overt symptoms, but it is important to check for these conditions through your GP and/or specialist, as if the underlying condition remains untreated, there is the possibility of developing chronic liver disease in the long term.
