A fibroadenoma is a common solid benign tumour of the breast. Of itself, it does not confer increased cancer risk. Diagnosis is usually confirmed with a biopsy. Not all fibroadenomas need to be removed. Usual indications for removal are if it is quite large and causing distortion of the breast, if it causes pain, if it appears to be enlarging over time or if there is uncertainty that it may be something else other than a benign fibroadenoma.
