You live in your body 24h a day, 365 days a year, so knowing what is normal for you is an important part of early detection for anything. As a breast surgeon I recommend that you examine yourself once a month. It doesn’t take longer than 1-2 minutes. If you still have regular menstrual cycle then I recommend you examine your breasts about 1 week after the end of your period. If you have gone through menopause, choose a day of month you will remember e.g. first of every month. For a guide on how to do a self-examination of the breasts, please go to https://drerickfuentes.com.au/breast-health/#self-examination-and-check-up . If you ever find a lump or are in doubt, please see your GP and get breast imaging done.
