Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis in the knee.1 It is a degenerative “wear and tear” type of arthritis that usually develops over time as the cartilage in the knee joint gradually wears away. It occurs most often in people 50 years of age and older or those who have had joint injuries.
As the cartilage wears away, it becomes frayed and rough and the space between the bones decreases.
This can result in pain, swelling and loss of motion.1,4 Walking any distance may be difficult and as is going up and down stairs. Squatting, kneeling and walking up and down inclines may also cause pain.
