    Conditions that can be treated by thyroidectomy include:

    • Thyroid cancer, which may also require the removal of lymph nodes in the neck around the thyroid.

    • Thyroid nodules or multi-nodular goitre (multiple nodules in an enlarged thyroid) which can cause symptoms such as compression, difficulty swallowing or difficulty breathing.

    • Grave’s disease or disease where thyroid nodules produce too much thyroid hormone. This can lead to thyrotoxicosis where your body is affected by high levels of thyroid hormone.
