Some people may have a long period of remission and then experience what we call breakthrough seizures. This can be due to a number of reasons, and sometimes it is a combination of things that can contribute. Seizures may re-occur at a change in life, such as growth spurts, puberty or menopause, or be related to illness. They may also happen during a change of medication or from the introduction of another medication not related to epilepsy. Or, they may simply be a result of a great deal of stress - physical, mental or both.

Sometimes there is no clear reason. This is a frustrating time for many people, and you will most likely need to go back to your neurologist and review your epilepsy.
