To be eligible for a Medicare rebate, you will require a referral from a GP, Psychiatrist or another qualifying referrer. This referral takes the form of a Mental Health Care Plan and entitles you to a rebate. Currently, the first plan allows for six (6) sessions with a possible extension of four (4) sessions and then another ten (10) sessions (added during Covid) in any year. Unfortunately, at this stage, you cannot be able to claim from both Medicare and private health insurance for the same session.
