    Hi there,

You require a review by your doctor. A referral to a gynaecologist is warranted. A full history and a pelvic and systemic examination should be obtained to elucidate the cause for your lack of periods and the thickened endometrial lining. It is abnormal to have no periods for > 10 years and also have a thickened lining on the scan.

Depending on risk factors, you would require sampling of the endometrial lining. If you have risk factors for endometrial cancer or hyperplasia (precancerous lesion) such as obesity, PCOS, and/or a family history of endometrial cancer, this would need to be done more urgently in the form of a hysteroscopy D&C (a camera inserted into the uterus through the vagina to visualize the endometrial cavity).

Obtaining a sample can be completed in a clinic setting with a thin flexible device called a pipelle. Ideally the gynaecologist should at least perform this test to exclude any suspicious pathology. This is a low risk and minimally invasive procedure that takes a couple of minutes and can give you peace of mind.

    All the best.
