  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

I'm having recurring back pain some 2 years after a microdiscoscopy. Should I see a doctor again?

What should I do - go back to the surgeon or my Physio? This pain didn't exist for the first twelve months after surgery.

I would suggest you see a physio first, as you stated that the pain was absent the first 12 months after surgery, so it's unlikely surgery related. It can be the case of other structures being affected by either inappropriate care of your back or undesirable movements. A well trained physio should be able to perform differential diagnosis to isolate the cause of your pain this time. If the problem isn't physio related, I would expect your physio to communicate with your GP re his finding to facilitate your care.
