How to prevent weight gain on steroid treatment?

Gained 12kg since Oct 2015, which was started steroid treatment due to adrenal insufficiency. I don't eat huge meals and tend to skip meals due to lack of appetite. Would weight loss surgery benefit at all? BMI is 34 and rising. Type 1 diabetic with multiple complications. I can't keep gaining but if I stop steroids I will deteriorate back to how I was prior to diagnosis. -

Has your insulin dose changed with steroid use also? If so this may also be a contributing factor.
