New to Australia. I have a child diagnosed with ADHD receiving treatment. What kind of doctor should I make an appointment with for follow up and for a medicine prescription?

In Australia, Paediatricians with an interest in Developmental Paediatrics, and Child Psychiatrists, are the mainstay of the management team for young people with ADHD. They will often refer to a Child Psychologist as part of the team effort.

It is very important to remember that the young person with ADHD is very likely to have at least one parent with lifelong ADHD, as well as siblings with ADHD. Every family member of a young person with ADHD must be screened for the ADHD condition. Parents are far more effective in their parenting role when their own ADHD has been addressed.
