There is generally a Consultation and Liaison team at a hospital. He can ask his treating physician to arrange a consult from this team which will include psychologists and psychiatrists. They can provide an initial assessment and then organise for a referral to a psychologist in the community. Some psychologists will see patients in hospital particularly if they are in hospital for a lengthy time, and then continue to see you after discharge in the community.
