Patients with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis may be eligible for treatment with infliximab based on the following criteria:
- have failed to respond to a 5ASA medication (e.g. mesalazine) for three or more months
- have failed to respond to an immunomodulator (such as azathioprine or mercaptopurine), or
- have had a disease activity test (e.g. Mayo or PUCAI) done confirming the severity of their disease.
The above criteria does not apply to patients who have previously received infliximab. Individual advice should be sought by consulting your gastroenterologist.
