Why has my tooth has become loose?

My top tooth has become loose,I'm worried that it will fall out. How do I get the tooth repaired before it falls out?

  • Teeth loosen for many reasons. The degree of mobility, presence or absence of pain, discoloration of the tooth, bleeding around the gum surrounding the tooth in question, can affect the diagnosis.

In order for the tooth to be treated you must see your dentist as soon as possible. In extreme situations leaving the tooth as it is will lead to the tooth being lost. I highly recommend you seek professional advise soon.

Some of the common causes for tooth loosening include:

    1) Trauma to the tooth from a blow to the teeth.
    2) Gum disease which causes the underlying bone to breakdown and a reduction in tooth support.
    3) A dead tooth which has a chronic abcess around the tooth root.
    4) Abnormal forces placed on the tooth due to teeth grinding or from a poor bite.

Each of these causes have several other inter-related issues which can impact on the condition of the tooth. Management of these common problems are simpler and less costly if diagnosis and treatment is carried out early.

    Good luck.
