Why are my anti-depressants making me so tired?

Recently I have been put on these drugs for anxiety based depression. The problem is that I feel really tired and exhausted even when I'm not doing anything, I am sleeping ok 6 to 8 hrs I'm off work at the moment so it can't be I'm tired because of that, also went to the gym yesterday and afterwards I felt so tired I felt ill and I had to have a lay down and have a sleep. Really I want to know if you think it's the tablets.

Feeling tired is a known side-effect of some anti-depressants though it does not apply to everybody who has been prescribed a given anti-depressant (everybody is different).

Usually it takes a while (weeks - months) for the effects of an anti-depressant to kick in fully.

I don't know how long you have been on your anti-depressant but I suggest that you wait for a month or so.

If, after then, you are still feeling tired, talking with your prescribing doctor about trying another anti-depressant would be a good plan.

    All the best.

I would recommend you return to the doctor who prescribed your medication and share your concerns.  Your fatigue will need further investigation and may be due to a combination of factors that will need to be identified and addressed
