  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

Is there any way to reduce my reactions to these foods?

About 30 years ago I was told that I had developed some “intolerances” to certain foods and after allergy tests was told that I was allergic to corn and cocoa. I get migraines as a result of many many foods and it makes my life very difficult. My question is - although corn and cocoa were diagnosed as allergies all those years ago and my reaction to corn took 24 hours (approximately) the reaction time is down to approximately 1 hour. I avoid cocoa most of the time but corn in its various forms is in almost everything and difficult to avoid and I seem to be getting corn in some of these forms on a regular basis. By this question I mean other than living on the elimination diet for the rest of my life.

In a nutshell, no if you are truly allergic to corn. It will  be worthwhole going and seeing an adult allergy specialist who can help you with accurate diagnosis and treatment. A dietitian may also be beneficial to help with foods that do not contain corn.
