It depends on the individual and their health circumstances. I try to limit my clients to no more than three a day as I find they are often substituting coffee for water and are therefore not drinking adequate water. Consuming excess caffeine can result in symptoms such as thirst (possible dehydration), headaches, high blood pressure, shaking or palpitations.

Coffee is a very popular beverage to consume. Different coffees have different levels of caffeine. In general, sticking to less than 3 cups of coffee per day (less than 300-500mg caffeine) is the best option, to prevent the effects of too much caffeine in the body.
Tea is a great alternative if you enjoy hot beverages and to keep you hydrated, with the best drink being water.

Coffee has lots of health benefits and a recent study linked it to reduced risk of type 2 diabetes. Regular coffee drinkers don't seem to suffer any short term side affects (like increase heart rate, blood pressure) however if you don't usually drink coffee and then have a a couple of cups this you will probably experience this.
The main problem with drinking lots of coffee is the volume of milk that comes with it. If you drink 3 or 4 lates or cappacinos per day then this is 3-4 cups of milk which is too much for most people.
