  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

Can Crohn's affect small bowel and absorption of pain medications?

I was wondering if having Crohns effected small bowel which is about 10cm or so affected now after having almost 3 feet of Crohns effect small bowel removed in 1995 and then being rejoined after having a stoma. If that effected bowel can effect the absorbtion of pain medcaitons like MS Contin or Oral Ordine?

Which I am on due to Chronic pain for a chronic sinus problem and very painfull inflmatory Arthrtis effecting my left pelvic and lower back.
I also have adhesions of course due to the surgeies. I know very well what food and vitamins cannot be absorb, e.g B12, Iron etc. Thanks Phil

There would be sufficient small bowel left to compensate and absorb the medication.  If there has been little to no response to treatment, this should be discussed with the doctor.
