  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

How do I come off 50mg of Sertraline?

I've been on Sertraline for about 4 months and do not think I need it any more. My doctor switched me to pristiq two weeks ago due to side-effects, though he gave me the option of coming off altogether. I've been seeing a counsellor through this period and worked through the issues that I believe fuelled the depression.

It is good to read that seeing a counsellor has helped you.

Generally coming off psych meds is a matter of tapering off rather than abrupt cessation (going “cold turkey”). Your doctor should be able to draw up a tapering off schedule for you.
