Optometrist
I find the key to a successful eye test is to make the examination fun. We are able to get more information out of a child when they feel comfortable. “Talking up” the eye test before hand can sometimes pre-stress children and become counterproductive.
Every child is different and requires a different approach. Children certainly don't need to know their shapes or alphabet to have an eye test, as Optometrists have many ways to work out how well a child is seeing. My best advice to parents is “don't stress”.
