Although physiotherapists do work with athletes, they work in a team made up of medical doctors, nutritionists & dietitians, performance coaches and chiropractors.

I have actually written a blog on this topic, as there is a complete specialised field for athletes known as sports chirorpactic.

So in short; Yes, chiropractors work with athletes…and…  there is a team of health professionals that work with the athlete.

Idealy, this is how every individual should be looked after. By a team of professionals all using their strengths to improve the health of that individual.

Some excellent examples of Chiropractors working with Elite Athletes:

    • Usain Bolt gets adjusted before competing, as did Maurice Green in his prime.
    • Most American Pro Cycling teams have a full-time Chiropractor on staff, Jeff Spencer, DC, being one of the most prominent.
    • Most Olympic Programs have Chiropractors consulting on the medical team.
    • Padraig Harrington (Pro golfer) travels with his Chiropractor, and even has been adjusted for a stiff neck and disc problem in the middle of the last round of a Major!
    •  Dr King, DC treated the Leicester Tigers and England Rugby union teams.
I think the long and the short of it is that Chiropractors bring along with them a unique angle to the medical team, but it is the combined skill and experience of the medical team that works best in preventing many devastating sports injuries.
