Worldwide, the success rate of implants is generally considered to be over 95%. Most studies report 97-99% success rate over long periods of time.

However…..the success rate would also decrease with certain factors such as cigarette smoking (most research papers would state the risk of failure in smokers is twice that of non-smokers), unstable periodontitis (active gum disease), existing medical conditions e.g. diabetes or cancer (especially with head and neck radiation treatment history). Other factors like the site of the implant (does it have good quality surrounding bone? Does it need a graft? Is it easy for the surgeon to access) also may affect the success rate.
The success rate in terms of longevity is high…. Dr. Baetz is right that under controlled conditions and healthy individuals, the 90% or higher is common, but it will differ from one person to another. Discuss this with your dentist or implant surgeon to get a better idea if dental implants are a good treatment for you.

Generally 80- 90% but it really depends on the abilities/ experience level of the operator.

Dental implants are highly succesful, in excess of 95% in ideal conditions. If the implant follows the extraction of an abscessed tooth or the patient has a compromised immune system or other serious health issues, such as diabetes, then the success rate can be lower. If you are considering having an implant it is best to ask the dentist what the success rate would be in your individual case based on your own health record.
