Why might I need a colposcopy?

Hello I was just wondering 2 weeks ago I had a pap smear done I explained to my gyno that I had been bleeding during sex a little every now and then she took a smear and a chlamydia test - both came back normal so she now wants to take a colposcopy and I'm really stressed. Is there something she isn't telling me?

Your specialist is acting in your best interest. Be comforted by the fact that both your Pap smear result and chlamydia were negative. A colposcope (an instrument that magnifies the cells of the cervix) gives a closer view and allows the Dr. to check the health of the cervix. This closer look at the cervix will give the specialist more information  which will help in your treatment and management.
