It would certainly help reduce the risk of developing osteoporosis if they start exercising regularly. The national recommendations for children is that they exercise up to 1 hour or be physically active for up to one hour per day and that should include some body weight exercises such as strengthening ie: push ups and squats. These types of exercises also help build bone density.
