Chemotherapy is used in the management of patients with early cervical cancer, if they are node positive, that is if the cancer has spread to the regional lymph nodes. That is used in conjunction with radiation therapy. That treatment is known as concurrent chemoradiation therapy. We know that the role of chemotherapy in that instance, is just to enhance the effects of radiation therapy. In patients with advanced or recurrent disease, chemotherapy is used alone or again in combination with radiation therapy.
