Australian chiropractors are required to study for a minimum of five years in Chiropractic accredited universities. Currently the list includes:
RMIT University (Melbourne)
Macquarie University (Sydney)
Murdoch University (Perth)
Central Queensland University (Mackay)
These courses offer either a 5 year bachelor degree or a three year Bachelor of Chiropractic Science which provides the basis for entry into a two year Master of Chiropractic.
The undergraduate degree is a minimum three year full time degree which covers a range of orthopedic and chiropractic diagnostic and manipulative skills which is layed upon a foundation in biomedical science. It is a prescribed program which provides a strong scientific foundation in anatomy physiology, microbiology, histology and pathology.
The competitive post graduate program is a rigorous two year program that develops the concepts and techniques introduced in the undergraduate degree. This program includes coursework in neurology, orthopedics, nutrition, pathology, patient management, physical and neurological rehabilitation and manual medicine. In conjunction with this study, students are required to participate in a one year internship within one of Macquarie Universities Chiropractic Outpatient and Research Centres.
On completion of this program, graduates receive international recognition along with the assumption for full diagnostic responsibilities of a primary contact health practitioner. They must then be undergo the registration process via the AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency). This is the same process as doctors, dentists, physiotherapists etc.
