A stroke is a rapiid loss of brain function due to disturbance in the blood supply to the brain. Depend in what area of the brain has disturbed blood flow will depend on what signs and symptoms  are experienced. Neural(nerve cells) tissues are extremely sensitive to loss of blood flow, causing a slowing or stopping of electrical signals. Speech disturbance can be affected by either a loss of blood flow to facial and jaw muscles (cranial nerve 7 and 5 respectively) or the specific part temporal lobe relating to speech.
