  • Q&A with Australian Health Practitioners

Is there any way to cure endometrosis?

I am 36 years old and have one child but during last year I have gone through 2 different kind of surgeris (Laparatomy and Laparoscopy) to cure my endometrosis. Only after 1 month from surgery I have faced with the same problem of having a chocolate cyst again.
It reaches to about 10cm in not more than two months. No birth control pills or other treatment(Diferline injection) has been of a help till date.
Please help me with the ways for curing this problem and also let me know what is the percentage of the chance of being pregnant in this condition.

It is highly unusual  for a completely excised endometrioma (chocolate cyst) to re-form so soon after treatment. This would raise the possibility that it was not completely excised however having not performed the laparoscopy I could not comment on the completeness of the excision. Certainly in our practice we aim to esnure that ALL of the cyst capsule is excised to avoid this problem. There have been a number of papers regarding the pre or postoperative use of Zoladex (GnRH analogs) to supress hormonal activity after excision of an endometrioma and this may be suitable in your situation. It would certainly reduce any pain for the 6 months you are taking it BUT you would not be able to conceive during this treatment.
