The best way to prevent deterioration depends on what condition is causing the deterioration in the first place.

The most important way to preserve normal vision through life is to stay healthy. Protecting your eyes from the sun, eating a healthy diet, not smoking, and having regular eye examinations will ensure that your eyesight remains optimal. Certain age-related changes such as the eventual need for reading glasses cannot be avoided.
