The GP wouldn't listen to my call for help...

I had been ill for about 6 weeks with a variety of physical issues related to the possibilty of falling into depression again… I don't normally ask for help it's difficult for me to express myself face to face, i said to the GP that i ‘feel’ i am going in that direction again and the response was NOT what i was expected. I felt as though i shouldn't of asked for help or wasn't worthy of using her time? things have become worse since that in the last 4 weeks, i can't handle any change in routine or plans it makes me so emotional and angry. At work i keep getting anxious and concerned about performance regardless of encouragement from managment. My husband cannot understand why i feel the way i do, i feel sad for no reason, i get angry for no reason and i am struggling when i am ‘alone’. i have had depression before for a lengthy period when i was younger about 5 years ago, i don't want to end up there again but to proud to put my hand up for help… catch 22?

Hi, that really sounds like bad luck regarding your GP.  I'd be interested to know what your GP said to you.  My suggestion is to find another GP.  Maybe a friend or relative can recommend someone? Otherwise have a look at the Beyondblue website http://info.beyondblue.org.au/MAHP.html where you can look up GPs who have an interest and experience in mental health.  You've got a right to be helped!
