Typically a panic attack is defined as something that lasts about ten minutes. However, there can be a long ‘after shock’ period of hours to even days. It can be made worse because the period post panic attack is a period of vulnerability for another one, and so on.

If you are having panic like episodes that last much longer you should see your doctor. In fact you should always see your doctor anyway if you have a panic attack to rule out a physiological cause, such as an overactive thyroid.
