People who are HIV-positive are at increased risk of developing some cancers - the most common of these are high-grade B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, Kaposi's sarcoma and invasive cervical cancer.
This is thought to be a consequence of immune suppression (people who are HIV-positive may have abnormally low levels of CD4+ lymphocytes) rather than a direct effect of HIV.
