Your thyroid and its hormones affect various bodily functions, particularly metabolism and energy production. As humans we burn fuel (fat and glucose) to produce our energy, and with hypothyroidism we don’t produce as much energy and therefore burn less fuel (particularly fat), making it harder to lose weight. Hypothyroidism can also cause fatigue, which in turn means you are less likely to be active and can contribute to weight issues. Resistance training is a good way to build up muscle and boost your metabolic rate. Be sure to consult with your doctor on a regular basis to discuss symptoms and medications (if any).

Reistance training (often referred to as weight training or strength training) involves using a resistance (eg:weight) to force the muscle to contract. Hope this clarifies things for you.

Yes, in the case of hydrotherapy the water acts as the resistance. Be sure to change up your routine regularly in conjunction with your health professional/local Exercise Physiologist to keep on challenging your body and gaining muscle benefits.
