One of the best general treatments that I use for kids runny noses is the combined tissue salts Ferrum Phos and Kali Mur. These come in chewable tablets and can be given every 2-3 hours, depending on how intense the runny nose is. The earlier that this is given after the onset of the runny nose, the more likely it is to abort the cold. Mothers love these tissue salts. They are available singly, or in combination. The combination often includes another tissue salt called Nat Mur, which works well too.
The success does depend on the reason behind the runny nose - the above is for runny nose caused by viruses.
