Dyslexia is a sign that there are more then one way of thinking in this world. On the surface it might seem like someone with dyslexia has a problem, in that they have difficulty with reading, writting and mathmatetics (and possibly more), but what it actually shows is that the individual is right-brain (hemisphere) dominant.
Left-brained people (about 90% of the population) are better equiped to handle letters, words and numbers. They are linear thinkers.
Right-brained people (people with dyslexia/ADHD) are better equiped for art, visual pursuits. They are 3D, wholistic thinks, well equiped for problem solving and developing new ways of thinking.
Like being gay, or left-handed. Being right-brained is simply a evolutionary variation, that gives the human species lots of potential.
Sadly dyslexia is treated a disability by many, and yet most people with dyslexia learn well, really well if they are taught in a way that suits their style of thinking. In fact on average people with dyslexia/ADHD have slightly higher IQs, and thats besides their creative, artistic, and empathetic intelligence.

Dyslexia is defined as a developmental reading disorder, and also referred to as a learning disorder, learning disability, learning difficulty, specific learning disability, and an endless list of other terms. It is widely understood to be genetically based.
Essentially it is a problem with reading and spelling not related to another primary problem such as low cognitive ability.
Dyslexia (difficulty reading) may be a result of different processing problems, but the most common is a problem with phonological awareness (recognising the sounds in language). It is important to obtain a thorough Psycho-educational assessment to diagnose the processes that are problematic. Many people with dyslexia can successfully learn to read with direct instruction in systematic phonics.
The area is also confounded by a large number of people who present with poor reading ability, due to the prevalence of non-evidence based philosphies of reading in the education system since the late 1970's through to today. These individuals may not have a genetically "brain-based" dyslexia, and generally respond quite rapidly to evidence-based instruction.
