Medications used for epilepsy, particularly if someone is on high doses or more than one medication, may interfere with the body's ability to use certain nutrients and create vitamin deficiencies. Many people with epilepsy say that following a nutritious, well balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important in maintaining optimal seizure control.
There is a diet called the Ketogenic diet which is successfully used, mostly in children with severe epilepsy, to help control seizures. A diet similar to the Atkins Diet has been used by some adults with reports of success.
