Irritant dermatitis often referred to as contact dermatitis or irritant vulvitis can occur on any part of the body or even scalp. It occurs when chemicals or physical agents damage the surface of the skin faster than the skin is able to repair the damage. The skin of the vulva is delicate and it is important to understand this when choosing cleansing agents/soaps/body/washes etc. Many of these products are laden with chemicals and perfumes which have the potential to cause irritant dermatitis.
