There is no cure for MS yet. However, there are currently many drugs, called disease modifying drugs or DMDs, that can help slow down progression of MS. The first line of drugs (four of them) are injections either daily or 3 times/ week or once/week. Their effectiveness ( and safety) has been well-established. Which drug to choose is a matter for discussion between neurologist and client. Sometimes it requires trials and errors. The next line of drug involves intravenous infusion once/month. The drug has proven very effective too but there are some side effects that neurologist would carefully consider before making decision. The next line is oral drugs. They have been proven effective but their safety have not yet established. So, when a patient sees a neurologist s/he will be advised which drug should be taken depending on the history of patient.
